As we all go through life, there are times when our own personality is challenged. In the Western lifestyle, we are confronted with making decisions that affect our day to day life. Pressures, restrictions, obligations, laws, the Corporate ladder, and family are just a few of the areas that carve out our personality.

Within the roots of music and music making, lies many powerful tools in living life to its full potential. In my continuing studies and most importantly from some of the Masters I have met, understanding the music is just one area of study that has direct connection to understanding our fellow man.

Each culture has its own tradition and uses of music making, but one important aspect all the great Masters share is their respect for all. Their Respect for the true form of the music and its tradition which is held within that culture; and their respect for their fellow human beings is something we can all be a part of.

My purpose for writing this book was to offer guidance to the beginning hand drummer. Since there are so many different drums, years of study can go into mastering any one of them. In this guide, I will discuss a general approach to obtaining the sounds as well as demonstrate basic patterns. Understanding standard musical notation is not necessary, as I have adapted an easy to use box notation system. Keep in mind that there is no right or wrong way of playing, just as long as the player enjoys the beautiful sounds and enchanting trances he/she produces.
