'Songs for the Deaf' by queens of the Stone Age was a huge record for my musical and drumming taste. I remember listening to it over and over and always being blown away. In particular, No One Knows, the song we're looking at today, had a big impact on me. The aggressive rock shuffle, the deliberate part arrangement, and the raw intensity of Dave Grohl's drumming forever changed the way I thought about playing drums. Africa Yote means: All of Africa. This is one of the first grooves I learnt on drum set. I have met drummers from across Africa who recognize this rhythm and have a name in their language for this rhythm. This rhythm is based on the 6/8 African pulse/clave. The improv is an example in opening up the rhythm in any direction once the fundamentals of the rhythm are internalized. Learn, play, and share joyfully! Peace:) Altaf
