The Fibes SFT-690 is one of the most storied fiberglass snares ever made—famous for its crisp attack, wide tuning range, and studio-friendly focus. It’s strongly associated with Buddy Rich, who was playing this drum starting in the late 1960s and favored the COF SFT-690 configuration for its cutting clarity and response.
From the Fibes 1970 catalog: "Full range of dynamic sound. Smooth flowing response, at a feather-touch whisper or a thunderous crescendo, is derived from the integrated action of its sensitive fiberglass shell. Triple plated solid bronze quick release throw off assembly. Large adjustable steel knob for proper snare tensioning. 18 strand piano wire snappy snares Machined edge of shell for correct level to gain greatest head vibration . Correct position and depth of snare bed maintained with single cut (on both sides of shell) snare bed machine."
