Gretsch Early 70s Stop Sign Badge Bop Kit 12/14/18 in Walnut Lacquer
For sale is a rare Gretsch Stop Sign badge bop kit from the early 1970s in Walnut lacquer. This is the classic Progressive Jazz configuration:
12" x 8" Rack Tom – Model 4415, Serial #18922
14" x 14" Floor Tom – Model 4417, Serial #17599
18" x 14" Bass Drum – Model 4244, Serial #19492
Each drum carries its original Gretsch Stop Sign badge and blue model stamps, with interiors finished in Gretsch’s signature silver sealer. The shells are 6-ply maple/gumwood construction with original "70's bearnig edges, producing the legendary warm, articulate tone that defined countless classic jazz and studio recordings. The 12/14/18 bop sizes are the most sought-after Gretsch configuration, made famous by players like Elvin Jones and Tony Williams. This setup embodies the “That Great Gretsch Sound” — warm, resonant, and perfect for jazz, bebop, and studio work. This kit features a Slingerland tom mount bracket on the bass drum and Slingerland bass drum spurs. These may have been dealer-installed or added later by a previous owner. The modifications do not affect playability — in fact, many players prefer the sturdier Slingerland spurs for gigging. Floor tom legs are not original Gretsch legs. Snare drum, cymbals and hardware sold separately.
